The editor's pick today is Labor of Love by Thomas Beatie. Born originally a female, Thomas is the man the whole world kenw as the first man to have a baby. Thomas transitioned from a female to a male and married his long time partner Nancy. The couple wanted a family of their own but Nancy was unable to concieve. Since Thomas had decided to keep the female reproductive organs he was born with the couple agreed Thomas would carry the baby whcih stirred up much controversy between LGBT, religious, and medical organizations. The novel written by Beatie takes you through his life as child up to an adult and his decision to make the transition to a male. It continues into the life of his partner and their decision to start a family. This is a great book about courage and determination. The individuals in this book took on almost the whole world by going against the beliefs of mainstream society. After reading it, I have much respect for Thomas, Nancy, and their support team for going against the odds. Though many believe the author's reason for writing a book was to simply gain more publicity, I still feel it takes a lot of courage to put your life on display. This is a must read!
