TransGriot On Blogspot.com

TransGriot is a blog written by  Monica Roberts an African American transwoman who now resides in Louisville Kentucky. Roberts who is a native of Texas, transitioned in 1994 and she has been a blogger since January of 2006. Roberts uses the blog to share with the world her views and opinions on topics in the world in which we live. Her topics range from serious to funny and feature many topics relevant to the LGBT community. With a focus on the trans community. In 2008 she was a finalist in the Weblog awards in the LGBT blog category for her informative works.

In one of Roberts recent blog posts titled Black Transpeople Are Making History Too, she focused on the accomplishments of trans individuals in history. “What I want to do is focus on the Black History that is being made by people like me, transpeople of African descent.” She stated in her blog. She spoke on the fact that the African American community as well as other communities, must realize transpeople are individuals who are also making great contributions to society. They are not simply victims of hate crimes. The blog continued to note several individuals within the trans community such as Marsha P. Johnson, Miss Major, Alexander John Goodrum and Avon Wilson, who have made an impact and paved the way for others through their efforts to make a difference.

Roberts can also be included in this list of great individuals who have educated us as well as struggled to make the LGBT community as a whole be heard and accounted for. By writing this blog she sheds light to topics that may go unnoticed and gives us strong opinions that truly make us think, which I will quote her final portion of the blog to leave LezNation readers with something to ponder. “Contrary to what some people and our haters may think, African descended transpeople are not only part of the community, we're making Black history as well.”
